OVERVIEW
Dr. Norwahida Yaakub is senior lecturer at the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Kuala Lumpur Campus. Being an Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practitioner with more than 11 years of professional experience that certified by DOSH in oil and gas, construction, and manufacturing industries. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational and Environmental Health from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She continued her postgraduate studies in Environmental Engineering and completed her Doctorate in Occupational Safety and Health, strengthening her expertise in both technical and applied safety disciplines. At the early stage of her academician career, Dr. Norwahida was actively involved in academia, particularly in teaching and learning activities. She has served as a Head of Programme for diploma-level studies and has contributed to curriculum development, programme review, and academic quality assurance processes in line with Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) requirements. She is also actively involved in the supervision of students at diploma and postgraduate levels, providing guidance in academic research and applied safety studies. Her research experience includes involvement in internal university research initiatives and the successful secure of international matching grants. Her primary research interests include risk assessment, ergonomics, and occupational safety and health. She has published papers in journals, contributed chapters in academic books, and holds several copyrights related to research-based innovations. She places value on engagement with industry and enjoys working closely with industrial partners. She collaborates with industry through consultancy work, applied research, training programmes, and knowledge-sharing activities. In addition, she is involved in university initiatives and community engagement programmes, reflecting her commitment to strengthening safety culture and improving workplace safety practices in both academic and industrial environments. Her professional approach emphasises practical solutions, ethical research conduct, and continuous improvement, while supporting industry needs, student development, and sustainable occupational safety practices through collaborative, evidence-based, and safety management strategies.
