Dr Aszlan bin Selamat is a Malaysian historian and academic whose research centres on international history focus on the history of Malaysia–United States diplomatic relations. He is presently serving as the senior lecturer at School of Language, Civilisation and Philosophy (SLCP), UUM, related to academic works, research, and others responsibilities. Dr Aszlan obtained his PhD in History from the University of Malaya in 2019, with a dissertation examining the influence of Malaysian and American newspapers on bilateral diplomatic relations from 1975 to 2004. He also holds a Master of Arts (History) and a Bachelor of Social Sciences With Honours (History) from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). With over a decade of teaching experience, Dr Aszlan has lectured at several higher education institutions including UMS, MSU, ALFA University College, North Borneo University College (NBUC), Wawasan Open University and Geomatika College. His teaching areas encompass History Subjects, Malaysian Studies, Ethnic Relations, Islamic and Asian Civilisation (TITAS), Philosophy and Contemporary Issues, and general education subjects for both local and international cohorts. His research contributions include peer-reviewed publications in JEBAT, Jurnal MANU, E-Bangi, and Jurnal Sejarah, addressing themes such as the history of Malaysia-U.S relations and cooperation, refugee policies, media propaganda, economic nationalism, anti-semitic, history of Sabah and the Federation of Malaysia, etc. He has also participated in multidisciplinary research projects on Orang Asli and refugee education, policy development and tourism. Dr Aszlan was awarded Associate Professor in Education Management in 2023 and serves as a member of the Sabah State Unity Action Committee (PANDUNEGERI). He is member of the British International History Group, Malaysian History Association, the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, etc.
