OVERVIEW
Dr. Hafidz Hakimi Bin Haron is a distinguished scholar in Constitutional Law at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). Originally from Rompin, Pahang, he has built a remarkable academic career, earning a Bachelor of Law (LLB), Master of Law (LLM) with the Excellent Masters Award from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in 2013, and a PhD from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He is also a non-practising Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. Before joining UUM, Hafidz was a law lecturer at Multimedia University (MMU) from 2014 to 2023. His academic expertise gained international recognition in 2024 when he was selected for the Oxford Media Policy Summer Institute. Hosted by Oxford’s Centre for Socio-Legal Studies (OCSLS), the program brings together emerging leaders to explore critical issues in democracy, justice, and security in the digital age. Hafidz presented his research on "Online Hate Speech Among Youth" at Jesus College, University of Oxford. In addition to his academic work, Hafidz is a certified Human Resources Development Corporation (HRDC) Trainer, accredited by Malaysia’s Ministry of Human Resources, demonstrating his commitment to professional development. His research focuses on Constitutional Law, Human Rights Law, and Media and Cyber Law in Malaysia. He is particularly passionate about the role of cyber law in fostering civil discourse in a multicultural society. His work addresses the challenges of combating hate speech, disinformation, and misinformation, particularly in the context of the pandemic. Hafidz has contributed to numerous academic journals, conference proceedings, and media outlets. He is also the author of Freedom of Press and Press Council: The Quest for an Ideal Regulatory Formula, a key reference in Malaysian media regulation. His expertise continues to shape discussions on law, media, and policy.
