SHARIMA RUWAIDA ABBAS is a Lecturer at the Department of Psychology & Social Work, School of Social Development, College of Arts and Sciences, Universiti Utara Malaysia. Sharima obtained her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) from Western Michigan University (WMU), USA. She also received Graduate Certification Specialization in Non-Profit Organization from WMU. Sharima had completed intensive training in disaster management and received Disaster Management Certificate from Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, Bangkok, Thailand, as well as, a Certificate of Psychological First Aid in Practice: Helping People Cope During Disasters and Public Health Emergencies (Training of Trainers), which was conducted by Jack Herman in Hawaii; who developed this training after 9-11 attack in New York. Sharima received trainings in Therapeutic Play Skill and Supervision in Play Therapy conducted by Prof. (IBECPT) Monika Jephcott from The Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy, United Kingdom. She received a Certification of Supervision in Human Service Organization from Family Resource and Training Center (a training academy under Singapore Association of Social Workers), Singapore. Her area of specialization and research interests are Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance, Disaster Psychosocial, Supervision, Group, Community Work and Creative Intervention (Art, Play and Adventure Training). Sharima is an active lifetime and ex-board member of Malaysian Association of Social Workers (MASW). She is also a lifetime member for MERCY Malaysia and an active member of International Association for Social Work with Groups (IASWG). Sharima is a current secretary of Golden Key International Honor Society for Malaysia and a member of Asia Pacific Association of Social Work Education (APASWE), Association for Community Organization and Social Administration (ACOSA), USA and International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW).
