I completed my first degree at the National University of Malaysia, majoring in Malaysian History. I then pursued a master’s degree at the same university in Malaysian and Asian History, focusing my dissertation on "The Conflict Identity of Malay Muslim Society in Southern Thailand". Subsequently, I obtained my PhD in 2015 from Institut Alam dan Tamadun Melayu (ATMA), with a thesis titled "The History of Citizenship Formation in Malaysia (1946–1957) and Its Impact on the 13th May Tragedy 1969."
My main research interests include history, ethnic conflict, and nation-building. Additionally, I have a keen interest in Malay studies, Malay socio-cultural issues, and Malay literature.
My academic journey began in December 2001 when I joined the School of Social Development, Universiti Utara Malaysia, as a Lecturer, a role I held until 2003. I then moved to the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Education, where I served as a Lecturer from 2003 to 2006. From 2007 to 2015, I continued my teaching career at the School of General Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, Universiti Utara Malaysia.
Between 2012 and 2016, I took on the responsibility of coordinating courses for the UUM-IPTS collaborative program under the School of General Studies. From 2015 to October 2016, I served as the Course Coordinator for Malaysian Nationhood and, concurrently, from 2016 to 2017, I coordinated the SADN1033 Malaysian Nationhood course at Atlantis Business School, Mauritius. During this period, I also served as the Course Coordinator for General Studies (AD0063).
In November 2016, I was appointed Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Applied History program at the School of Languages, Civilisation, and Philosophy, a position I held until 2019. From 2019 to 2020, I worked as a Senior Lecturer at the same school. Since 2021, I have served as the Deputy Dean of Student and Alumni Affairs (HEPA) at the School of Languages, Civilisation, and Philosophy, Universiti Utara Malaysia.
In my teaching role, I contribute to various university core subjects such as "Malaysian Nationhood Studies
" and the UUM Foundation Programme’s "Introduction to Nation Building in Malaysia", as well as "Dasar-dasar Negara" under the School of Education and Modern Languages. Since 2021, with the introduction of the Bachelor of Applied History program, I have been teaching subjects including "Introduction to Archaeology", "Historical Research and Writing Methodology", "Applied History and Legislation", "Academic Writing" and "Practicum".
