Dr. Teoh Ai Hua is a senior lecturer and Chair for the Postgraduate Program (Social Work and Policy) at the School of Applied Psychology, Social Work, and Policy, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). He holds a PhD in Social Work from UUM and an MA in Social Work Studies from the University of Kent at Canterbury, United Kingdom. Dr. Teoh’s areas of interest include public social services, social work practice, professionalization of social work, case management, and care in the community.
At the national level, Dr. Teoh serves as the President of the Malaysian Association of Social Workers (MASW) for the term 2023-2025. He previously served as MASW President for four terms from 2009-2017. Additionally, he serves as the Vice President of the Malaysian Council on Welfare and Social Development (MAKPEM). He was appointed by the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development of Malaysia as a member of the Technical Committee for Enhancing Professionalism of Social Work from 2010-2018, a member of the Special Project Team on the Social Work Profession Bill from 2019-2021, and a member of the Technical Working Group (TWG) for the Road Map to Implement Ha Noi Declaration on Strengthening Social Work towards a Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN Community and for the Development of ASEAN Social Work Consortium (ASWC) Work Plan 2021-2025.
At the regional level, Dr. Teoh serves as the Regional President of the South East Asia and Pacific region of the International Council of Social Welfare (ICSW-SEAP), and the Regional Vice President of the Asia Pacific Region, International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW-AP).
