OVERVIEW
Dr Arpah has more than 20 years experience in risk management and insurance education. She is an Associate Professor at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) College of Business and a research fellow at Institute of Risk Management, UUM. She served UUM in various leadership capacities including Head of Banking & Risk Management Department, Deputy Dean of School of Economics, Finance and Banking. Currently, she is the Director of AACSB Accreditation Unit overseeing 7 academic faculties in quality assurance. She contributes to the University-wide initiative in bridging the gap between academia and industry-community. Dr Arpah has been an active member of the Malaysian Association of Risk and Insurance Management (MARIM) since 2005. She has served for many years as the Honorary Secretary, head the conference and forum organizing committees and led the initiative in the development of the risk management professional certification program. Apart from being active at MARIM, she has served as a member of the Technical committee of the Risk Management Standard by the Standards Development Agency. As a member, she took part in the drafting of the MS ISO 31000: Risk Management Standard. She has been appointed as the Head of Cluster, Risk Management and Insurance, Science and Technology Expert Panel for Disaster Risk Reduction (STEP for DRR), National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), an agency under the Prime Minister Department of Malaysia. Dr Arpah graduated with a BBA in Actuarial Science and, in Risk Management and Insurance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. She obtained her MBA specializing in Insurance from the University of North Texas, USA and a Phd in Risk Management and Insurance from Universiti Utara Malaysia. Her main research interests include risk management, health insurance, and risk financing. She has been involved in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation research focusing on risk financing for several years.
