OVERVIEW

Dr. Norhaslinda Zainal Abidin currently is a senior lecturer and researcher at Decision Science Department, School of Quantitative Sciences, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). She received her PhD from University of Salford, United Kingdom in 2012. Previously, she received her Master Degree (Decision Science) from UUM in 2003, and her Degree in Statistics from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2001. Norhaslinda’s main research interest is in the application of system dynamics simulation models to policy-level issues in health, agriculture, transportation manufacturing and public policy generally. Domains have included the obesity, tobacco and dengue, human resource planning, palm oil agriculture, road congestion, and manufacturing. In 2012, she was principal investigator on FRGS grant with the title- Battle against obesity using system dynamics model for behaviour change. In 2013, she was a member in two FRGS grants on the tobacco and dengue projects. In the following 2014, she was principal investigator in another FRGS grant on the palm oil project. She has supervised postgraduates students on various topics such as a novel integrated system dynamics tobacco control model for preventing smoking prevalence and smoking-attributable mortality, a hybrid model of system dynamics optimization towards improvising the palm oil industry in Malaysia, and early warning dengue transmission control models with a hybrid of stochastic frontier analysis and system dynamics. A recently successful completed master student has been researching on tertiary education in Malaysia using system dynamics and this is a project directed at modelling of strategies designed to improve the academic staff performance in UUM.
