OVERVIEW
Chek Derashid is an Associate Professor of Accounting and Taxation at the School of Accountancy (SOA), UUM College of Business (COB), Universiti Utara Malaysia. He received the Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) from University of Leeds (England), Master of Business and Accounting (MBAcct.) from University of Aberdeen (Scotland) and Bachelor of Accounting (B.Acct.) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He joined Universiti Utara Malaysia in 1989 as a tutor and serve as a lecturer since 1991 till present. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005. Currently he serves as Director of Institute for Management and Business Research (IMBRe). He has held numerous administrative posts in UUM such as Deputy Dean (Academic) of the School of Accountancy [1997 to 1999] and Deputy Dean (Research & Graduate Studies) [2004-2006] of the Faculty of Accountancy, Deputy Director ITU-UUM Asia Pacific Centre of Excellence for Rural ICT Development [2007-2010] and various committees at the university and faculty level. His primary research and teaching interest is in taxation and financial accounting. He has been teaching courses like Principles of Taxation, Advanced Taxation, Specialize Taxation, Revenue Law, Principles of Accounting, Business Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, System Analysis and Design Integrated Case Study and Accounting Programming Packages for undergraduate level, while Contemporary Issues in International Taxation for Masters level. He has published several articles in International journal, taxation books and various taxation monographs. Apart from the academic works, he also appointed as Tax Consultant by the Uniutama Management Holding Sdn. Bhd (UMHSB) and Uniutama Properties Sdn. Bhd. from 2005 until 2010. He is also invited to give talks on taxation by government and private organizations.
